Totally Unique Thing, glazed ceramic with AI-generated image, time limited series
Created by Sir Grayson Perry for Delusions of Grandeur, this time Limited Edition is only available during the exhibition run (28 March – 26 October) and is back stamped to this effect.
Having been interested by the advance in artificial intelligence image generators for some years, Perry is most intrigued by ‘how they demonstrate what it is to be human by showing us what…programs cannot do’. Each ceramic frame features a unique AI-generated image of Perry in a scenario inspired by Shirley and her imagined alter-ago, the Honourable Millicent Wallace. From its place within the exhibition’s narrative to its own creation, the piece plays with the themes of identity, legitimacy and artifice.
The black glazed ceramic frame is meticulously detailed and topped with the iconic Alan Measles as a heraldic dog. In this guise, Alan Measles plays his part in Shirley Smith’s (Perry’s fictional artist alter-ego for the show) fantasy ancestral history.
On purchasing a frame, you have the opportunity to choose your favourite, Totally Unique Thing image from the selection listed.
