Evacuation of Boucher’s The Rising of the Sun Mini Print
Regular price £15.00This mini print has been produced to celebrate our free display, the Wallace Collection at War, exploring the Artists Aid Russia exhibition hosted in Hertford House in 1942, after the collection had been evacuated for its safety. The emotive black and white archival photograph illustrates the scale of this evacuation, as well as a key moment in the Collection's history, showing the Wallace Collection team removing Boucher's largescale The Rising of the Sun (displayed above the main staircase) from the house.
The display draws on newly revisited archives, surviving catalogues and artworks actually shown in 1942 to illuminate how the Wallace Collection contributed to Britain's wartime cultural front.
