The 4th Marquess of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace were both passionate collectors of miniatures - small paintings in watercolour or enamel which was one of the most popular mediums of portraiture before the age of photography.
This book presents one of the major British collections of miniatures consisting of over 330 works and including the greatest group of French miniatures as well as fine examples from English and other schools.
Written by former curator of Nineteenth-Century Pictures and Exhibitions curator, Stephen Duffy, and former Curator of Pictures Pre-1800 and Director of the Wallace Collection, Christoph Vogtherr.
