"Satan therefore tickled his senses and, as is his wont, lighted in his maturing body the fires of lust..."  - Saint Jerome c. 390 A.D.

This quote neatly summaries Hilarion's trials of living in self-imposed exile in the deserts of Syria, as does Papety's painting bring that plight to life. Hilarion of course refused all the alluring temptations sent to him, rightfully earning his saintly title.

This greetings card has been printed exclusively for the Wallace Collection from a painting on display in West Gallery III of the museum. This piece was also the inspiration for our first collaboration with Melody Rose which you can also shop online via the Collaborations page.
