Madame de Pompadour was mistress to Louis XV and worked her way up to a high position within the French court acting as a political adviser. Wanting to maintain her political influence and strengthen her public image, Pompadour called upon a number of working artists of the time, including Boucher, to paint a series of portraits. This particular painting completed in 1759 now hangs in the Oval Drawing Room at the Wallace Collection and is yours to take home or send to a friend as a greetings card.
