The Royal Collection holds one of the finest collections of arms and armour in the world. This catalogue is the first since 1904 to cover significant elements of this substantial and important collection in comprehensive detail. The collection itself includes more than 250 pieces of European armour, comprising complete armours, individual pieces, shields, horse armour and spurs, many of which were commissioned or collected by the royal family over a period of 500 years.
More than 500 colour images are used to illustrate the collection, including intricate decorative details and makers' marks. Among the many outstanding examples of the armourer's craft, the catalogue includes spectacular 16th century and early 17th century Greenwich garnitures made for Henry VIII, Sir Christopher Hatton and Henry, Prince of Wales.
